Ron G moved the mixtape forward in the early 1990s by blending R&B a cappellas with hip hop beats (known as "blends"). Blend tapes became increasingly popular by the mid-1990s, and fans increasingly looked for exclusive tracks and freestyles on the tapes. Tru (also labeled Tru LP to differentiate it from the EP) is the fifth studio album by American singer Lloyd, released on August 31, 2018, by Young Goldie Music and Empire Distribution. In 2002, Nonesuch Records released this new, full-length recording of the landmark musical Dreamgirls featuring Tony Award winners Heather Headley, Audra McDonald, and Lillias White, among other luminaries of musical theater. He appeared with Drake on the song 'Killer' and on the song 'Upside Down' on Snoop Doggs album Malice N Wonderland. A first studio album, South Central State of Mind, was expected in the summer of 2009 but was never released it has been postponed indefinitely. In the hip hop scene, mix tape is often displayed as a single term mixtape. It is now a word to generally describe full-length albums released for free, which is the modern form of mixtape that was made a popular following by 50 Cent and his group G-Unit in the early 2000s, sometimes containing all original music, other times composed of freestyles and remixes of popular tracks.
